Finally, Rita finished her tale. She had moved to Ohio with Harold, raising a family and never looking back. As her mother told her story, all the pieces started to fall into place, and everything made sense in Lukasik’s head. Her mother needed to wear makeup 24 hours a day, as well as keep out of the sun, in order to carry on the horrible charade. Part of Lukasik wished she had never looked into Rita’s past to begin with.
