A Special Request

As Rita finished her tale, Lukasik could see that her mother felt sad and heartbroken. Still, while she seemed to realize how many mistakes she had committed, Rita was simply not ready to lift the blinds off of this darkened portion of her life.

So, even before she finally opened up to his daughter and told her story, Rita asked Lukasik to not reveal her secret to any other member of the family, until after her death. Even though Lukasik found the request unusual, she didn’t want her to suffer any longer. A woman of her word, Lukasik kept her mother’s secret until she died in 2014.
