The B Next to His Name

At first, everything in the 1900 Louisiana Census seemed above board. It listed Azemar Frederick, along with his birthdate, age, gender, and other information noted in the census. However, that’s when Lukasik noticed that her grandfather’s name carried a strange marking beside it.
Taking a closer look, Lukasik noticed that there was a letter “B” written alongside her grandfather’s name. In fact, there were “B” s next to many of the names – but not all of them. Lukasik knew it must mean something, but what, she had no idea. Thankfully, she was in a library! So, taking a few history books off the shelves, Lukasik started looking for what the “B” could mean. As she did, a sinking feeling invaded her…
