The Lockdown Changes Everything

When COVID-19 hit and lockdowns were imposed, Alves’ health diminished, like many others worldwide. The lack of exercise resulted in Alves gaining a serious amount of weight.

“I have been diagnosed as obese as I weigh 16 st. [101 kg./222 lb.],” Alves recently wrote in an Instagram post. “I am really huge but you can’t see it in pictures.” In a few months, Alves will head under the knife one more time, for a gastric sleeve procedure. But she feels incredibly nervous this time around. Why? “This is more complex and health related,” Alves explained. “They’re cutting my stomach and I’ll be left with just 25 per cent of my stomach.” We wish Alves the best of luck! But at least she’s not alone in her struggles…
