Character: Mrs. Koothrappali

Mrs. Koothrappali is the mother of Raj and Priya Koothrappali. She usually communicates with Raj via video chat, along with then-husband Dr. V.P. Koothrappali. What’s more, Raj’s mom seems to have an obsession with his son getting married and give her grandchildren. So, Raj decided to introduce Penny as his girlfriend to get them off his back.

However, she’s unimpressed with her as a possible mate for her son, especially considering she’s not Indian. What’s more, she considers Howard the closest thing she has to a daughter-in-law and she calls him “the Jewish boy.” Apparently, she enjoys Doogie Howser very much, which is new to India. In 2015, she divorced Raj’s father.
