The Newhouse Family – $18.5 Billion

Samuel and Donald Newhouse were into one of America’s most powerful publishing families. You see, they inherited Advance Publications from their late father Sam. Furthermore, under their leadership, the group became one of the largest private companies in America. Today, Advance Publications own Condé Nast Publications. In case you didn’t know, it is the publisher of Vogue, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, among others.
Not only that, but they also own over 25 newspapers in America as well as social news site Reddit and a substantial stake in Discovery Communications. Back in 2014, the Newhouse brothers sold cable TV company Bright House Networks for $11.4 billion both in cash and stock.
