Thankfully, the information the farmer had picked over the years helped. First, Plucas managed to determine that the calf was just a few weeks old. Although he didn’t get incredibly close, he could tell that the animal was female and not in very good shape.

As moose rarely abandoned their calf, Plucas decided to look around his property and see if he could find the calf’s mother. After all, she could be hurt as well! Unfortunately, her mother was nowhere to be found. All alone, with no one else to turn to, Plucas realized he would need to perform a physical inspection on the poor calf.
