In this rare photo, Queen Elizabeth is just ten-years-old! The picture was snapped the year King Edward VIII left his royal throne in order to marry an American woman, Wallis Simpson. In case you didn’t know, Simpson, a twice-divorced woman, caused a constitutions crisis in the United Kingdom, forcing Edward out of the throne when he decided to marry her.
The abdication led to Elizabeth’s father, King George VI, to gain the throne. Therefore, without Edward and Simpson, Elizabeth never would have become Queen. Hopefully, she thanked them before they passed away! She almost looks like she could be daydreaming about becoming queen one day in this photo…
