Experienced Sailors

Ashcraft and Sharp had years of sailing experience and spent most of their time cruising around the South Pacific Island on Sharp’s boat. In fact, over the past few years, the ocean had become more of their home than the land. However, that was no problem for Ashcraft, who had been sailing since childhood. “I learned first on my dad’s Hobie Cat and then during my first Pacific crossing in 1979,” she said.
“I was always interested in plotting the course on the chart and seeing where we were. I wasn’t a master navigator by any means, but I enjoyed it.” While Ashcraft did not consider her a master navigator or sailor, she would soon need to rely on those skills to survive!
