Given that Golden Globe and Emmy-winning television star Sarah Jessica Parker has been married to her current husband, actor Matthew Broderick, since 1997, it can sometimes be hard to remember that she was once married to none other than Robert Downey Jr. That’s right!
The two actors first met while working on the 1984 drama Firstborn. Sadly, Downey’s infamous substance issues took a serious toll on their relationship. Later, Parker said, “I believed I was the person holding him together.” After they broke off their engagement in 1991, Downey hit his rock bottom. Thankfully, he has been drug and alcohol-free since July 2003.
