The Niagara Falls that tourists visit today is actually only a fraction of what previous visitors enjoyed. In fact, experts guess that those who travel to the Falls these days only see about half of its former glory.

Still, there’s no question that it remains one of the most iconic sights in the world, and well worth the visit. It still receives millions of tourists every year, so that should tell you something. “It’s Niagara Falls. It’s one of the most beautiful natural wonders in the world. Who wouldn’t want to walk across it?,” famous daredevil Nik Wallenda said. While we wouldn’t want to cross it, it’s certainly a bucket list item. However, one question remains: will they ever drain Niagara Falls once again?
