The Discovery

Beau Doherty, left, Tella Osler, right, were the Simon Fraser University students to notice something rather strange on the seafloor. While Doherty spotted it first, the second he pointed it out, Olser agreed the square object did not belong. Determined to remove any trash from the beautiful ocean, the two decided to swan over to make sure the object wasn’t litter.
As they approached, Doherty realized that the mysterious object had hard edges and a leather strap that waved in the current. As he pulled at the belt, the young student felt astounded to see a round lens emerge from the sand. Despite the algae and sea life encrusted on its metal exterior, Doherty instantly recognized it as a camera!
