No Longer Getting Ready

After just a few months of kindergarten, Aliya Valero had become a shell of her former self. She no longer wanted to participate in school, have fun with her friends or family, or even have ice cream. To her family, her father Tomas in particular, Aliya seemed like the saddest little girl in the world. It seemed like things could not get any worse. Unfortunately, they so often can.

Eventually, Aliya began to stop getting ready for school altogether. She would simply lie in bed, forcing her parents to drag her out and get her ready. On days when her parents could not afford the time to do so, as they both worked, Aliya would miss school, causing her grades to drop further.
