Dorothy Hamill, Ice Skater – Legal Fees

In the 1970s, ice skating took the world by storm, and so did professional skater Dorothy Hamill. In 1978, she went to the Olympics, bringing home the gold in one of the most beautiful routines the world has ever seen. Then, in the ’80s, Hamill took a position in the famous skating troupe, Ice Capades. During that time, she made quite a profit out of sold-out tours, with multiple endorsements. Sadly, it was not meant to last very long…
In the early ’90s, Hamill surprised the world when she filed for bankruptcy. However, unlike many athletes who went broke, Hamill was truly not to blame. You see, she had spent a substantial amount of money on court costs fighting for custody of her child, as well as on medical bills after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
