Diego Maradona, Soccer Player – Unpaid Taxes

One of the greatest soccer players of all time, Diego Maradona is another athlete who lost it all. Maradona, who hails from Argentina, played for his country in four consecutive World Cups, one of the highest counts of any player ever. In 1986, Maradona finally led Argentina to the World Cup, winning with one of the most controversial goals in history! Whatever you think of him, Maradona is arguably going down in the history books.
As you might imagine, Maradona made quite a fortune as an international soccer star. However, unfortunately, the legend also had quite a reputation for not paying any taxes. So, the Italian Tax Authority finally caught up to him in the late 2000s, demanding he pay, wait for it, a whopping $54 million in back taxes! That’s right. Of course, this put Maradona in the poor house, and he had to file bankruptcy afterward!
