Charles Grassley and Barbara Speicher – Together Since 1954

Barbara and Chuck Grassley’s enduring union began on August 22, 1954, at The Little Brown Church near Nashua, Iowa. Their journey together has been one of commitment and resilience, nurturing a family of five children: Lee, Wendy, Robin, Michele, and Jay, and expanding to include nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Balancing family life and Chuck’s political career, Barbara began her studies at the University of Northern Iowa in 1954, pausing to support her family and Chuck’s campaigns. Demonstrating determination and adaptability, she returned to complete her degree in accounting in 1983. A 28-year breast cancer survivor, Barbara’s strength extends beyond her family—she actively participates in cancer prevention and Congressional Families’ activities.
