Shutdown Orders
Just as Hana began prepping a second dressing, a loud knock startled everyone. Two police officers entered the hallway, followed by Dr. Hargrove and a security supervisor. “Evacuate that room,” the officer ordered, hand drifting toward his holster. Hana stepped between them and the glass, voice firm but respectful: “It’s injured. The bear hasn’t harmed anyone.”
Hargrove scoffed. “You’re endangering everyone by playing wildlife vet.” Steve backed Hana, explaining the bear’s protective posture and the pup’s critical state. The officers exchanged uncertain looks. “Protocol says call animal control,” one muttered. “Protocol won’t save that creature,” Hana shot back, eyes locked on the frightened pup.
