Reunion in the Pines
As the crates were opened at the sanctuary, the bear rose slowly, sniffing the air until she located the pups. Her muscles tensed until she saw them curled on blankets, alive and calm. With quiet urgency, she padded forward, pausing as if seeking permission. The sanctuary staff stayed back, watching in awe.
Hana gave a gentle nod. The bear moved closer and sat down beside the enclosure, her massive form hunched protectively. The pups perked up at her scent, and two crawled toward the glass divider. A soft chuff came from the bear’s throat. Peter whispered, “She knows they’re safe now. But she still wants to stay.”
