A River of Rafts and Cold Brews
On a warm day in Finland, the 2015 Kaljakellunta festival transformed the river into a sea of inflatable rafts and happy faces. Picture thousands of people drifting along, drinks in hand, soaking up the sun. Kaljakellunta, or “beer floating,” started in the 1990s as a casual way for locals to combine two summer favorites: floating and sipping beer.
There are no official rules, just a community coming together for some relaxed, floating fun. With no formal organizer, it is all about the journey—and, of course, the beer. Who needs a beach when yo have got a river and a float?
