Actress Kristy McNichol became famous as a child star, thanks to shows like Family and hit movies like Little Darlings , living her life out in front of millions. But, after nearly two decades in Hollywood, the spotlight took its toll and McNichol retired to a private life in 2001.

Some years later, McNichol revealed a secret she had held onto for quite some time: she is a lesbian. As she told People Magazine , film production companies told her to hide her sexual orientation from the public, because they felt worried a lesbian could not become a teen star. Thankfully, since stepping away from Fame, McNichol has lived a quiet, happy life with her partner since the early 1990s, Martie Allen.
