Inside, they discovered old tags on the walls and piles of discarded materials. Nyx’s behavior shifted; he sniffed around, alert as ever. “These things have been here for years,” Mr. Johnson said, examining a tag. Alex poked through a pile, “Nothing useful.” The eerie light from broken windows cast unsettling shadows as they pushed on, hoping for a clue.
