An Important Meeting

Just two weeks after the incident, on September 11, 2017, a group of parents, led by Tony, and several school officials had an amicable meeting to discuss the dress code further. Inspired by his daughter, Demetra, Tony had rallied many parents who felt the same. And, at the beginning of the meeting, Principal Fraser made it clear she intended to listen. “I do reserve the right to set guidelines for the school,” she said. “But I want to lead with the pulse of the community and reflect the community’s core values.”

Over the next few hours, the meeting seemed to go great, with Tony clearly demonstrating why he felt the dress code violated the girls’ freedoms. In the end, Raymond J. Fisher Middle School handed down a decision no one saw coming…
