The Sackler Family – $13 Billion

The Sackler brothers, Arthur, Raymond, and Mortimer got together to found Purdue Pharma back in the 1950s. By 1995, the business skyrocketed after it began selling OxyContin. Surprisingly, by the year 2002, the company was generating over $1.6 billion worth of the painkiller. So it’s actually no surprise that they now have an impressive $13 billion fortune.
Purdue has spent hundreds of million dollars settling multiple lawsuits over misbranding OxyContin. Believe it or not, their star product generates over $3 billion in annual sales today. What’s more, the Sackler family still owns the company while the fortune is split among some 20 family members.
