Moving On

After writing her book, Ashcraft did everything possible to move on with her life. “I just kept myself distracted and kept moving forward. I went back to sea for many years. I think it was cathartic for me to get back to sea, to get back to what I loved to do. That was kind of my therapy, I guess,” she said.
Today, Ashcraft, seen above, lives on San Juan Island, off the coast of Washington. Believe it or not, she still sails regularly! Meanwhile, even though she still carries the memory of her fiancé with her every day, Ashcraft has married and has two children. The only sign of trauma is a tiny sextant pedant, which she wears every day, to remind her how she got home.
