The Hardest Part

For six months after making landfall, Ashcraft simply disconnected from the world. During that time, she processed her grief and the incredible journey she had been on. Eventually, Ashcraft began to give interviews, letting people have a peek into the terrifying journey.

“Definitely the hardest part was dealing with Richard being gone,” Ashcraft told the Chicago Tribune in her first interview about her experience. “There were times I didn’t even want to live anymore because I didn’t know how I was going to go on. I was never going to fall in love again.” While she will never have Sharp back, Ashcraft says she’s still thankful she’ll always have memories of their early days.
