Life that Began with Loss

Life didn’t give Olive an easy beginning. She was left at the hospital as a newborn, her mother overwhelmed and unable to take on the challenge of raising her. From then on, her life became an uphill battle, starting in the foster care system, where she never quite found a place to call home.

Without a single memory of her birth parents, Olive spent her early years in a world of temporary homes and uncertain futures. Still, there was a strange kind of solace in her situation—at least she wasn’t out on the streets, a harsh reality faced by too many children. Olive’s story, though, was far from over.
