Actress Kristy McNichol became famous as a child star, thanks to shows like Family and hit movies like Little Darlings, living her life out in front of millions. But, after nearly two decades in Hollywood, the spotlight took its toll and McNichol retired to a private life in 2001.

Some years later, McNichol revealed a secret she had held onto for quite some time: she is a lesbian. As she told People Magazine, film production companies told her to hide her sexual orientation from the public, because they felt worried a lesbian could not become a teen star. Thankfully, since stepping away from Fame, McNichol has lived a quiet, happy life with her partner since the early 1990s, Martie Allen.
