Betsy DeVos and Dick DeVos – Together Since 1979
Betsy first crossed paths with Dick DeVos around 1976 during her time at Calvin College. Their romance grew with campus visits, often with Dick arriving in his Mercedes. The couple’s shared Dutch heritage and Christian commitment played a significant role in their relationship, leading to their marriage in 1979.
Part of Michigan’s prominent DeVos family, Dick, heir to the Amway fortune and a notable political donor, and Betsy is later known as the U.S. Secretary of Education from 2017 to 2021. Together, they have raised four children: Rick, Elissa, Andrea, and Ryan. Rick notably contributes to urban development and is the founder of the ArtPrize festival in Grand Rapids.
